Many traditional universities find themselves burdened by traditions and practices that prove ill-suited for adult learners. The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) supports higher educational institutions through its Adult Learning Focused Institution (ALFI) Initiative, which enables universities to improve learning opportunities for working adults and the employers who support their education. Ashford University is a proud member of CAEL and a participating ALFI institution. In accordance with CAEL's Principles of Effectiveness for Serving Adult Learners, a framework which outlines best practices for schools to adopt, Ashford has designed specific enrollment policies and procedures to make educational opportunities highly accessible to adult students.
Ashford University is committed to implementing the Quality Matters standards for the design of online courses, and is systematically building and evaluating its courses based on these rigorous, research-based standards. The Quality Matters standards ensure that the online components of these courses promote learner engagement and provide students with the tools and information they require to be successful learners. IACBE is the premier professional accreditor for business programs in student-centered colleges and universities throughout the world. For the third consecutive year, Ashford University has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This distinction from the highest levels of government recognizes Ashford University's leadership in building a culture of service and civic engagement on campuses and in our nation.
The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, recognizes colleges and universities nationwide that support innovative and effective community service and service-learning programs. The Honor Roll's Presidential Award, given each year to only a handful of institutions, is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. The Honor Roll is sponsored by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, the USA Freedom Corps, and the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development.
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation. CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations. Ashford University is proud to belong to this eminent organization.
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education is a national alliance of educator preparation programs dedicated to the highest quality professional development of teachers and school leaders in order to enhance PK-12 student learning. The 800 institutions holding AACTE membership represent public and private colleges and universities in every state, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam. AACTE's reach and influence fuel its mission of serving learners by providing all school personnel with superior training and continuing education.
