* Lower division courses which are transferred for upper division Ashford courses do not count toward the 30 upper division credits required for graduation.

YOUR CREDITS COUNT

Your community college coursework can help you reach your education goals. Ashford University accepts up to 90 transfer credits from a two-year, regionally accredited institution, including Associate of Arts in Science credits, toward a Bachelor's degree program. Transfer up to 99 approved credits toward your Bachelor's degree. Combine your previous coursework with up to 75 nontraditional credits to make the maximum transfer impact!

TRANSFER PROCEDURES

Students who plan to transfer to the University from another college or university should apply online. Then, have your official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office from each college or university previously attended. If you have fewer than 30 transferrable semester credit hours, you will also need to submit your high school transcript.

Credits earned from a regionally or approved nationally accredited institution as part of an Associate's degree where a student earned a 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher are accepted as fulfilling all General Education and competency requirements of a Bachelor's degree program (must have College Algebra or higher for mathematics competency) if one of the two conditions below is satisfied:
  1. The student meets the general education requirements for Bachelor of Arts degrees offered through state universities in which the college granting the Associate of Arts degree resides;
    OR
  2. The transfer credits have been evaluated and deemed acceptable by the University Registrar's Office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will all my credits transfer?
Ashford's Registrar Office will evaluate your transcript(s) from previously attended colleges or universities and determine how many credits will transfer. We know you have worked hard already and don't want you to have to repeat coursework.

Are scholarships available to transfer students?
Yes, as a transfer student you may qualify for scholarships in athletics based on your skill level or on academic merit. First, complete your FAFSA and have it sent to Ashford. Our Financial Aid Office will determine any financial aid that is available to you. The academic merit scholarships are based on your GPA and include the following:

  1. The Dean's Scholarship (3.00-3.24 GPA) awards $10,000 toward your tuition per academic year;
  2. The Provost's Scholarship (3.25-3.49 GPA) awards $12,500 per academic year; and
  3. The President's Scholarship (3.5+ GPA) awards 100% of tuition paid per academic year. That amount is currently $15,720! An added benefit for recipients of this scholarship is that they may also apply for complete room and board-a $6,000 value-through completing a separate President's Scholarship Room and Board Application.

Do transfer students take longer to graduate?
The length of time to completion depends on how many of your courses are accepted toward your program completion and how many credits are required for your chosen program.

If I transfer, can I still do an internship?
Of course. If you're interested in an internship, speak with your Academic Advisor or the Office of Alumni and Career Services, 563-242-4023, ext. 7380.
