Dr. Joen Rottler

Portrait of Joen Rottler

Ashford University is proud to have a new leader, Joen Rottler, EDD, spearhead the College of Education. As Dean of the COE, Rottler is responsible for new program development, is the officer in charge of licensure for new teachers, and works with future educators in their preparation to teach. Although she has only been on campus for one year, she has already made an impact on Ashford's fast-growing community. "I am excited to be a part of Ashford's era of new growth and continuous improvement," she says.

One of the things Rottler loves most about Ashford is the opportunity to initiate and develop new curricula in a relatively smaller, younger environment. Plus, she also loves the campus location. "I was very interested in developing new programs; my daughter, son in-law, and grandchildren live in the area; and I love living on the Mississippi River."

Rottler earned her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa. She has held a number of diverse roles: from owning her own preschool, to being principal of an elementary school (where she won a ‘First in the Nation in Education' award), to consulting with the Iowa Dept. of Education. Her words of wisdom for her program's teacher candidates: "You are developing a professional reputation the minute you enter the program. That includes exhibiting the behavior of a role model for K-12 students and practicing leadership skills throughout the program."
