Transfer Procedures
Students who are planning to transfer to the University from another college or university should:
- Obtain an admissions application form and mail the completed application with the $20.00 application fee to the Admissions Office, or apply online at www.ashford.edu
- Have an official transcript sent to the Admissions Office from each college or university previously attended. If a transferring student has fewer than 30 acceptable semester credit hours, a high school transcript is also required.
Transfer credits from a regionally accredited or approved nationally accredited college or university will be accepted by the University under the following guidelines:
- Transfer credits will be evaluated from each college or university independently. Generally, credit for courses (100 level or higher) earned in a regionally accredited or approved nationally accredited institution with a grade of "C-" or better will be accepted in transfer. Grade points earned at another college are not used in the computation of the grade point average at the University, except for those students seeking a degree in the field of teacher education.
- Transfer credits will be evaluated by Registrar in terms of curriculum. Courses containing similar content will be accepted as equivalents to Ashford University courses. Courses not similar to those offered at Ashford University will be accepted on an elective basis within the general curriculum area in which the course was completed.
- A maximum of 90 credit hours will be accepted in transfer from a two-year college and applied toward the 120 credit hours required for the bachelor's degree. A maximum of 90 hours will be accepted from two-year and four-year institutions combined.
- Credits earned from a regionally accredited Associates of Arts degree where the student earned a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher are accepted as fulfilling all the General Education and competency requirements of a bachelor's program.
- Regionally accredited Associate of Science degree recipients with nationally accredited AA or AS degrees with a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine if the degree is accepted as fulfilling all the General Education and competency requirements.
- Credits earned in an Associate of Applied Science degree or a certificate program will be evaluated on an individual basis for the B.A. or B.S. degree. Courses taken that are similar to those taken in an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree program will be accepted in transfer. Exceptions to this policy must be approved in writing by Vice President of Academic Affairs.
After matriculating at the University, a student must obtain advance permission of the Vice President of Academic Affairs to enroll at any other college or university with the intent of transferring course credits to Ashford University for application toward degree requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will my credits transfer?
- Ashford's Registrar will evaluate your transcript(s) from other previously attended colleges or universities and determine how many credits will transfer. We know you have worked hard already and don't want you to have to repeat coursework.
- Are scholarships available to transfer students?
- Yes, transfer students can receive up to $6,000 in academic funding based on cumulative grade point average. You may also qualify for scholarships in athletics based on your level of talent. There is also a wide range of financial assistance for which students may apply. The only way to be sure is to complete your FAFSA and have it sent to Ashford. Our Financial Aid Office will determine what financial aid is available to you.
- Do transfer students take longer to graduate?
- That all depends on how many of your courses will transfer to AU.
- If I transfer, can I still do an internship?
- Of course. If you're interested in an internship, see your academic advisor or the Office of Alumni and Career Services, 563.242.4023, ext. 3510.
